Healthy Diet for Polycystic Kidney Disease Patients


Diet is a very important aspect in the process of maintaining physical well being for Polycystic Kidney Disease patients.
1. The diet for Polycystic Kidney Disease patients:
1) Limit excessive protein intake, stick to low-protein diet
Less eat high-protein, high-fat and greasy food such as chicken, duck, fish, meat etc; less eat high-vegetable protein like beans, bean product food (especially for Polycystic Kidney Disease). Low-protein diet plays a very important role in alleviating kidney burden and illness condition.
2) Limit the salted food: such as pickled food. But this depends on the illness condition of patient, not all Renal Cyst Patient need to limit salt.
3) Limit the contaminated food: such as spoiling food, insanitary food, barbecue food.
4) Limit the stimulating and spicy food: such as pepper, wine, chocolate, coffee, sea-fish, shrimp, crab etc.
5) Limit the medicines which have toxic and side-effect to the kidney.
When patients present High Blood Pressure and Edema, they should not only limit the sodium salt intake, but also take hypotensor. (Although the medicine has toxic and side-effect, High Blood Pressure takes more trouble to kidney).
2. According to the physical condition of patients
1) Drink 3,000 milliliters water every day. If patients present edema, heart failure or urine volume less than 1,000 milliliters, they should limit water, salt and high-potassium food, such as orange, all kinds of fruits.
2) If Simple Renal Cyst patients without obvious edema, heart failure, high blood pressure etc, they can drink proper water.
3) General principle: Polycystic Kidney Disease patients should eat high-vitamin and lighter food, fresh vegetables and fruits, like carrot, yangtao, orange, Chinese-date etc. Because the proper diet could increase immunity, it is not easy for patients to catch a cold.
3. Stick to the proper and healthy diet
Everything should be done according to Moderation principle as well as diet principle of Polycystic Kidney Disease patients. Eat less food will cause malnutrition, eat too much food will damage the digestive and absorptive functions of stomach and intestine, even leads to the obstruction of Blood Circulation.
