“Glomerulo-” refers to the clusters of tiny blood vessels in the kidneys that filter waste from the blood.
“Sclerosis” refers to scarring.
“Focal” means that only some of kidneys’ glomeruli have been damaged, while some are still normal.
If you have focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), it means the scarring is more limited.
Glomerulosclerosis affects both children and adults. Males are affected slightly more often than females, and it occurs more frequently in African Americans.
Symptoms of FSGS:
Some people with FSGS develop swelling (edema) of the eyelids in the morning and edema of the legs and body late in the day due to retention of fluid and this is what leads them to seek medical attention. Some notice foamy or bubbly urine when they urinate (due to the protein in the urine). Because symptoms may develop gradually, the disorder may first be discovered when there is an abnormal urine test (with protein and blood) or blood test (abnormal kidney function) done for a routine physical exam or on exam for an unrelated disorder. Many patients will have high blood pressure at the time of diagnosis.
Diagnosis of FSGS :
A kidney biopsy is necessary to establish the diagnosis of FSGS and to distinguish it from other diseases that may also cause protein loss in the urine and abnormal kidney function. In addition, the biopsy can help to distinguish the different types of FSGS and may provide important information about prognosis. Treatment can also be guided by the results of the biopsy.
treatment of FSGS :
The fact is that, currently, there is not yet an effective medicine which can help us remove these deposits rapidly. Therefore, immune tolerance is developed to make our body temporarily co-exists with the immune complex so as to stop further inflammatory reaction. Small dose of immune blockers are given regularly to avoid the relapse of the disease. Besides, periodical evaluation of immune reaction in the kidneys can ensure the accuracy of immune blocking.
Immune tolerance is just a interim measure, in the following immune adjustment step, we will begin to remove the immune complex with Chinese medicines including oral medicine, Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy, and medicated bath.

Effective treatment FSGS kidney disease
Glomerulosclerosis refers to scarring or hardening of the glomeruli -- blood vessels located in the kidneys. The glomeruli filter the blood as it passes through the kidneys. They remove waste fluids that then leave the body as urine.
The etiology of FSGS can have a major influence on therapeutic decision-making. The etiologic hallmark of primary idiopathic FSGS is podocyte injury while secondary types of FSGS (e.g., familial-genetic types, virus-associated FSGS, unilateral renal agenesis, and FSGS associated with renal dysplasia, surgical renal ablation, hypertension, and obesity) develop as a maladaptive response to glomerular “overwork.” The characteristic features of primary idiopathic FSGS include extensive foot process effacement, variable glomerulomegaly, and a clinical presentation consistent with full-blown nephrotic syndrome.
a new treatment immunotherapy is recommended which is available in China.
What is immunotherapy?
Immunotherapy is a comprehensive therapy which is created based on the theory of immunology. It is though that 95% kidney disease including FSGS is caused by the disorder of immune system, meaning the disorder of immune system leads to foreign substances attack the body and if it destroys the kidneys, it is more likely to cause kidney disease. The destroyed part of kidney determines the type of kidney disease.Immunotherapy is characterized by treating FSGS step by step from the accurate diagnosis, treatment and follow-up. It aims to restore kidney and treat FSGS by improving and rebuild the immune system.
