ADPKD Symptoms and Treatment

Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease(ADPKD) is one of common form of Polycystic Kidney Disease(PKD). As it usually develops at adult, it is also called Adult PKD.
ADPKD may develop for decades asymptomatically and it begins to show up symptoms by age 30~40 (How to diagnose ADPKD?). ADPKD symptoms are as follows:

Urinary tract infection(UTI)
UTI is a common complication of the disease including pyelonephritis, cyst infection, perinephric abscess, etc. It is a difficult condition to treat. If left untreated or treated improperly, it may cause septemia and even threaten the patients' life.
Back pain
Back pain is commonly found in symptoms of ADPKD. It is attributable to a number of causes.
* Growing cysts compress the kidneys and other adjacent organs.
* Stretching of kidney fibrous tissue.
* If the enlarged cysts rupture, the patients can experience intense pain accompanying with bleeding in urine.
* Kidney stone and infection as well as cyst infection can triggers of back pain.
High blood pressure
High blood pressure usually the cause for the patients seeing a doctor. The growing cysts can compression kidney tissues and/or renal arteries, thus leading to renal ischemia and anoxia. Lack of blood and oxygen supply to kidneys can stimulate renin-angiotensin-aldosterone thus elevating blood pressure. Uncontrolled high blood pressure is a major risk factor in deteriorating kidney function.
ADPKD treatment involves symptomatic treatment and etiological treatment. Usually, antibiotics, medications for blood pressure, painkillers etc are used respectively to relieve the mentioned symptoms. However, they are not enough to manage the disease and stop it from progressing at all.
Here a combination therapy of traditional Chinese medicine and immunotherapy is suggested to treat ADPKD. It aims at eliminating symptoms of ADPKD from its root causes.

These two therapies can shrink cysts in a gentle way and prevent cystic fluid secretion as well as the stop the cysts from increasing in size. In this way, ADPKD will be treated fundamentally.
