Immunotherapy is the update therapy in 2012 for Polycystic Kidney Disease.
Immunotherapy, also known as biological therapy uses the body’s own immune
system to help shrink renal cysts and improve kidney function.
What is immunotherapy?
Immunotherapy is the treatment that helps to repair, stimulate, or enhance
the body’s natural immune responses to alleviate the disease.
Does Polycystic Kidney Disease Relate to immune responses?
Polycystic Kidney Disease is not caused by immune system, but its progression
always related closely to immune responses.
There live a few people who live with PKD genes, but not the disease. In
other words, not everyone who carry faulty genes will develop the disease.
However, as soon as the people’s immunity can not function well due to some
factors, such as cold, infection, bleeding etc, their immunity has a great
chance to lose the monitor to lining cells.
What is lining cells?
These cells locate inside the cyst membrane which works to secrete cyst
fluids constantly. This is why kidney cysts grow up and develop persistently.
When immune system can not work normally, the lining cells will keep generating
and increase the ability to create cyst fluids.
Immunotherapy is used to regulate the wrongly-working immune system to
prevent the cyst fluids to generate and stop the cyst to enlarge.
What to expect from immune therapy?
● it alleviates the symptoms, such as back pain, flank pain, repeated blood
in urine etc.
● it stops the rapid growth of renal cysts. Immunotherapy can correct the
immune system and enhance immunity to monitor lining cells, thus avoid the more
generation of lining cells. Consequently, renal cysts will grow up slowly.
● It shrinks renal cysts. Immunotherapy can change the structure of lining
cells and make these cells to absorb instead of secreting the cyst fluids.
Speechless to say, renal cysts will shrink little by little. As immunotherapy
takes effects on all sized cysts, it rarely leads to relapse of renal cysts.
● It repairs the damaged kidney and improves kidney function. Immunotherapy
offers essential substances that help the damaged kidney tissues to
self-cure.
When renal cysts shrink smaller enough, they won’t cause kidney function
decline again; meantime, immunotherapy alleviates existed damaged kidney parts
to improve kidney functions. With a higher kidney functions, you are expected to
live a normal or better life.
