Blood in urine, also known as Hematuria or urine-bloody, is commonly seen in
patients with Polycystic Kidney Disease. However, this symptom of Polycystic Kidney Disease may result from different situations.
What causes the Polycystic Kidney Disease Symptoms—Blood in Urine?
The blood in urine can be caused in the following four conditions:
● Glomerular damages. Glomerulus is the functional unit of kidneys, which can
filter the waste products and excessive fluids and hold the useful proteins, red
blood cells etc from the blood. When renal cysts are large enough, they will
suppress the nearby renal tissues, including glomerular damages. Due to the
enlarged cysts, glomeruli will fail to keep the red bleed cells and leak them
out as blood in urine.
● Cyst rupture. As the Polycystic Kidney Disease progresses, the cysts will
grow up constantly. When they become large enough, cysts can rupture at any
time, especially when your kidneys or abdomen get trauma. The blood from cyst
rupture can be leaked out through urinary tract, leading to blood in urine.
● Kidney Stone. Kidney stone is a common symptoms of PKD, which results from
the nucleus of condensation and obstruction of urine. The movement of those
stones can rub the capillaries in urinary tract and cause bleeding. This kind of
Hematuria is usually companied by renal colic.
What should I do with the Polycystic Kidney Disease Symptoms—Blood in
Urine?
● Talk to your doctor as soon as possible. As we can not tell the blood urine
resulting from cyst rupture or not, patients with blood in urine should see
doctor as soon as possible. In some cases, cyst rupture can leads to the urgent
risk and put the patients into danger.
● Shrink your renal cysts. No matter the blood in urine is due to glomerular
damages, cyst rupture or kidney stone, the root cause for it is the enlarged
renal cysts. Thereby, the key to solve the problem is to shrink your renal
cysts.
● Daily care to your kidneys. Never eat the stimulus foods which can enlarge
your cysts, such as coffee, cola and curry food. Use a hammock instead of waist
belt.
Blood in urine is a sign of Polycystic Kidney Disease, if you find yourself
with dark or brown urine, you’d better have a talk with your doctor. Never
belittle the blood in urine, it may indicate that your renal cysts are eating
your kidneys bite by bite.
