Polycystic Kidney Disease consists three types and they are autosomal
polycystic kidney disease, autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease and
acquired cystic kidney disease. Each of them differs from each other.
Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD)
ADPKD is most common type in this inherited condition, which takes up 90%
cases. An inherited condition is one that is passed from parent to child through
a faulty gene. Most people with ADPKD find they cysts in their adulthood,
especially at the age of 20~30. This is why this type disease is also known as
“adult polycystic kidney disease”.
The symptoms of ADPKD include: urinary tract infection, Hematuria, liver and
pancreatic cysts, abnormal heart valves, kidney stones (how to deal with PKD
combined with kidney stone), aneurysms and diverticulosis etc.
Autosomal Recessive Polycystic Kidney Disease (ARPKD)
ARPKD is much less common than ADPKD, which causes symptoms after birth or
later on. This condition is also known as infantile polycystic kidney disease.
The severity of ARPKD differs from children, but most of them will develop into
kidney failure stage within several years later. In some severe conditions, the
kid may die in hours or days after birth. For people with juvenile PKD, they
usually are recommended dialysis or kidney transplant.
The symptoms of ARPKD include: high blood pressure (high blood pressure
secondary to PKD), urinary tract infections, frequent urination etc.
Acquired Cystic Kidney Disease (ACKD)
Acquired cystic kidney disease is not a genetic type which usually happens
after long-time dialysis. Severe kidney damages leads to this cystic kidney
disease.
Here is the relation between onset formation and dialysis use time.
Onset of cyst formation:
● 54% in five years
● 72% in ten years
● 86% in twenty years
One of the typical symptoms of acquired cystic kidney disease is urine color
change which always indicates blood in urine.
Different types of PKD are recommended with different treatment plans. We are
one of the largest kidney disease hospitals in the world. More than 10.000
kidney disease patients come here each year. If you need any help, welcome ask
