Have a Healthy Baby without Polycystic Kidney Disease

Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is a kind of congenital kidney disease and this disease has the characteristic of familial aggregation. If one of the patients has this disease, each of their children has 50 percent of possibility to inherit the cyst gene. If both of the parents have this disease, the possibility increases to 75 percent. If the child doesn’t carry the cyst gene, his or her offspring won’t have this disease anymore, which means this disease won’t be atavistic.

For many patients with the disease, after having been diagnosed, they suffer a lot. Except the physical suffering brought by the disease, they worry about whether they should have a baby. I believe everyone wants to be a patient and enjoy the happiness of family. As for the patients with this disease, however, it is not easy to have a healthy baby, especially for the women patients, pregnancy may induce the attack of this disease.

At present, much progression has been made on the treatment for this disease. If the patients pay attention to the following aspects, they can have more possibility to have a healthy baby.

First, pay attention to premarital B ultrasonic examination, especially the people whose parents are patients with Polycystic Kidney Disease. And avoid the marriage of couples both with this type of disease, for which can increase the morbidity of the next generation;

Second, patients with this disease should take the examination of amniotic fluid or hair cells “cyst gene” after the pregnancy of 10 weeks.
