Now that you have been diagnosed with PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease), will
you still be able to work? This may have been the first thing that popped into
your mind when your doctor gave you the news. While it’s true that PKD can have
devastating effects on your personal and social life, if you are between the
ages of 40-60, it can have an even greater impact on your job.
You may lose your job, not just because of PKD, but also the complications of
PKD, which can be high blood pressure, cysts in other organs and so on.
If you have been diagnosed with PKD and you are still working, the first
thing you should do is ask yourself if your job is going to make your condition
worse. If your job will have little impact on your disease and you choose to
continue working, talk to your employer as soon as possible about making any
necessary, workplace adjustments that will make it easier for you to do your
job.
1. Reduce your workload
2. Allowing you to work from home at least a couple of days a week, if not
every day.
3. Allowing you a flexible schedule so that you do not miss your doctor
appointments or perhaps letting you come in later on certain days.
If you do not want to lose your job, you should consider to do everything you
can to prevent PKD exacerbation. An exacerbation can cause you to miss more days
at work, or worse yet, land you in the hospital.
In fact, if patients are diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease, they
should ask for a vacation and receive a holistic treatment. If the condition is
well controlled, you can back to work. As for the treatment, surgeries might not
be a good choice for you because so many cysts are involved. A natural herbal
therapy will be a necessity for you.
I hope all PKD patients can work well after treatment. You can get advice
about PKD treatment options, PKD diet suggestions and other advice from our
online medical staff. They will give you more detailed suggestions according to
you specific condition.
