Symptoms of Polycystic Kidney Disease
Polycystic Kidney Disease is one kind of Kidney Cyst. Because there are no obvious symptoms in early stage, many people don’t realize this disease. Once obvious symptoms occur, patients will miss the best treatment period. At that time, kidneys are damaged severely and even uremia occurs, threatening patients’ life. What should patients do is to know the symptoms of Polycystic Kidney Disease early and take corresponding measures.
1. Pain in kidney area
Pain in kidney area is the important symptom. Patients may feel pressure in lower back, dull pain, sharp pain and abdominal pain. These pains can be aggravated because of physical activity and long-time walking. Patients should rest in bed so that these pains can be alleviated. Renal bleeding, movement of stone or infections also can cause sudden pain.
2. Enlargement of kidneys
Lesions of kidneys in both sides are asymmetric and the sizes are different. Kidneys may occupy the whole enterocoelia in late period. There are many cysts in kidney surface. Therefore, shape of kidneys is irregular and kidneys are uneven and hard.
3. Hematuria
About half of the patients show microscopic hematuria. Gross hematuria of episodes can be found, resulting from rupture of blood vessel wall. Hematuria is usually accompanied with white cells in urine, proteinuria and little urine protein less than 1.0g/L. When kidneys get infected, obvious pyuria occurs. Besides, hematuria is aggravated.
4. High blood pressure
Before the increase of serum creatinine, about half of patients have high blood pressure, which is related with pressure on tissues around cysts and renin activation - angiotensin - aldosterone system. Cysts increase faster for Polycystic Kidney Disease patients with high blood pressure, which may influence prognosis directly.
5. Renal Insufficiency
Renal insufficiency will occur in patients with Polycystic Kidney Disease. Some cases develop into renal failure in adolescence.
6. Polycystic Liver
Polycystic liver develops slowly, which is 10 years later than Polycystic Kidney Disease. The cysts are formed by dilatation of the lost bile duct. In addition, pancreatic and ovarian cysts may also occur with higher complication rate of colon suffocation.
