Symptoms of Kidney Cysts

1. Pains or discomfort in waist and abdominal
With the enlargement and expansion of kidney, tension of renal capsule increases or adjacent organs are squeezed. Besides, Kidney polycystin lead to more water existing in kidneys. Thus, kidneys become heavy and pull down causing pains. The pains can be dull pain fixed in one side or both sides and extending to waist and back. Pains can increase suddenly if intracystic bleeding or secondary infection occurs. If this disease is combined with stones or blood clots block urinary tract, renal colic also occurs.

2. Hematuria
It can show microscopic hematuria or gross hematuria. Its attack presents cyclicity. Strenuous exercise, trauma and infections can induce or aggravate hematuria. Because of increasing pressure or infections, vascular wall rupture or bleed due to excessive traction.

3. Abdominal mass
Abdominal mass is the main cause for patients to see doctors. 60% to 80% patients can reach the enlarged kidneys. Generally, the larger the kidneys are, the poor the kidney function is.

4. Proteinuria
Proteinuria is less than 2g in 24-hour urine. Nephrotic Syndrome does not occur in most of the cases.

5. Hypertension
Kidneys are oppressed by cysts causing renal ischemia, more renin is secreted resulting in high blood pressure. When kidney function is normal, more than 50% patients have high blood pressure. When renal dysfunction occurs, incidence rate of high blood pressure will be higher.

6. Renal dysfunction
Cysts press the tissues around them so that there is a significantly reduction of normal kidney tissues, thus causing progressive decline of kidney function.
