Patients with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Should Quit Smoking

Smoking can cause much harm to health. For example, smoking can cause lung cancer; it can also cause arteriosclerosis and accelerate its development. The experts point out that smoking can damage the filtration membrane of kidney thus causing the protein to leak. In return, proteinuria can further aggravate edema. This malignant circle can accelerate the decline in the renal function.

In addition, smoking can cause upper tract infection, pneumonia, colds and other inflammations. We all know that these inflammations are very dangerous factors in accelerating the development of PKD. Moreover, some harmful substance in cigarettes has to be discharged out of body by kidney, which will certainly cause much harm to kidney.


Therefore, in order to keep the health of kidney ,the patients with PKD should quit smoking. Especially for patients with PKD, it is very necessary and urgent for them to give up smoking so as to decline the kidney damage.
