Nearly half of persons with Polycystic Kidney Disease will have to undergo a
lifetime of dialysis, as kidney mass is replaced with cysts and the organs cease
to function. How about hemodialysis treatment for PKD?
When should patient start dialysis?
When the kidneys fail to work adequately, the body cannot filter the toxins
from the body. Over time, the toxins will build up in the various cells and
tissues, resulting in a severe condition- Uremia. And, there is excess fluid in
the tissues of the body as well as anemia and electrolyte imbalances. Untreated,
it can be potentially fatal. Dialysis such as hemodialysis is the basic
treatment. Generally, patients are recommended to start dialysis when the kidney
function falls to 15% of less.
What is hemodialysis treatment?
Hemodialysis uses an artificial kidney machine to filter and cleanse a
person's blood. A permanent tube, or port, may be placed in patient's leg or arm
which enables them to be connected to the machine. The blood is pumped out of
the body and through the machine, where it is filtered and cleansed; then
returned back into the body via specialized tubing. In most cases, patients
receive this procedure 2 to 3 times per week and observe a strict diet, fluid
intake, and exercise program.
Once patients are on hemodialysis, will their Polycystic Kidneys get
better?
The kidney damage in people with PKD is continuous and progressive over a
number of years, and the kidneys usually do not get better. The treatment do
nothing to prevent the cyst enlargement and restore the damaged renal function.
Actually, patients have other better treatment option in China.
Shijiazhuang Kidney Disease Hospital is one of the largest kidney disease
specialized hospital throughout the world. Based on 26 years' experience and
expertise in treating PKD, the kidney experts in our hospital created a natural
herbal therapy known as Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy.
Micro-Chinese Medicine is a kind of external treatment with functions of
shrinking the size of renal cysts and repairing the kidney function. Then, PKD
can be treated effectively from the root cause.
