Polycystic Kidney Disease is when numerous cysts are formed in both kidneys.
When the kidneys are filled with kidney cysts, their function will be reduced.
Thus, a lot of symptoms will come into appearance.
Usually, at the early stage, the cysts are very small, no overt symptoms will
present. Patients might be covered by Polycystic Kidney Disease’ false
appearance and think it is not severe. However, as time goes by, various
symptoms will attack, which make patients worried.
1. Backache (back pain, flank pain). With the continuous growth of the kidney
cysts, the kidney capsular surface will be dragged. When they give too much
pressure to renal pedicle, the nervus will cause pain, which can be shown up as
back pain, flank pain and dull pain. What is more, if these cysts are broken,
patients will experience a sharp pain in their back.
2. Hematuria (Blood in Urine, Cola Colored Urine). Hematuria is always the
first sign and symptom that makes patients worried. Most patients with PKD will
have ruptured kidney cysts. When this condition occurs, the cysts will bleed and
the blood will go out of body with urine. Also, the cysts will damage the
filtration membrane. The damaged membrane can leak red blood cells or protein
out of body.
Thus, forming hematuria or proteinuria. Hematuria will be much
severer if the cysts are infected.
3. High blood pressure (Hypertension). High blood pressure is predating other
symptoms, but always unnoticed by the patients. High blood pressure can do great
harm to kidneys, which have already been damaged by the cysts. In this way, a
vicious circulation will be formed. Also, researches say, high blood pressure
can also stimulate the growth of kidney cysts, which can directly affect the
prognosis.
4. Urinary Tract Infection. Over half of PKD patients will present urinary
tract infection, and is more frequent in women than men.
Besides the above symptoms, cysts in other organs, mass in abdomen, kidney
stone and proteinuria etc. are also the common symptoms of PKD (Polycystic
Kidney Disease).
If patients do not receive effective treatment, most of them will develop
into kidney failure. At this time, the common symptoms of kidney failure will
present like: nausea, vomiting, itchy skin, elevated serum creatinine, fatigue
and so on will present.
The above are the main symptoms of PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease). If you
have a family history of PKD, please go and perform a check. If so, timely
treatment is necessary for you.
