Analysis of PKD Patient's Condition with 3.5cm Renal Cyst and 4 Liver Cyst

Q: I, 27years old, have Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) and 4 Liver Cysts. Here is my condition for your information: right kidney 107*55cm, left kidney 110*47cm, 4 cysts in right kidney and 3 cysts in left kidney. Do I need kidney transplant?

A: You have Polycystic Kidney Disease, but the illness condition is not too bad.
First, your kidneys are still normal in size and all the cysts are simple csyts which are easy to treat.

Second, your renal function has not been damaged yet. Actually the renal function is still very good with GFR 101. It’s lucky you found the disease early. If well controlled, it will not develop to Renal Failure and you can avoid dialysis or kidney transplant.

I have to tell you that for patients with PKD, the cysts cannot be removed completely. Fortunately, your cysts are not big now. Cysts over the size of 50mm will need operation. Your cysts are only 3.5cm and 3.2cm, so no surgery is needed.

Conservative therapy can help shrink the cysts and make them smaller so that your renal function will not be damaged. I don’t suggest kidney transplant in such a young age and your renal function is so good. You still have long way ahead. I hope you can be positive and confident.
