The Difference Between PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) and Multiple Kidney Cysts

PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) is different from Multiple Kidney Cysts in various aspects such as causes, history, complications and so on. 1. Causes

Cysts of Polycystic Kidney Disease are filled with clear or yellowish fluid, which is similar with urine. While, cysts of multiple Kidney Cysts are filled with fluid which is similar with plasma, sometimes mixed with red blood cells.

4. Symptoms and damages

Patients with Polycystic Kidney Disease can have hematuria (blood in urine), high blood pressure, swelling, kidney insufficiency, Uremia (Kidney Failure). However, Multiple Kidney Cysts do not pose symptoms like high blood pressure and kidney insufficiency.

5. Location

The cysts of Multiple Kidney Cysts are usually located in the renal cortex, and few of them are in the medulla. However, cysts of Polycystic Kidney Disease can be at any parts of the kidney, including renal collecting duct.
