Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is a genetic disease and may accompany
patients’ whole life. Therefore, patients should pay more attention to the
natural treatments in their daily. Besides the necessary medical treatment, they
should attach more importance to their diet.
1. Limit the intake of protein.
Urea nitrogen is the metabolin of protein. For patients with PKD, as their
renal excretion function is damaged, the urea nitrogen can not be discharged out
of body thus causing much burden to their renal function. Therefore, patients
with PKD should limit the intake of high protein food such as bean and bean
products. They can eat some food that contains quality protein such as fish,
milk, and egg white.
2. Avoid eating animal offal.
Animal offal contains much purine. After purine metabolizes, it can produce a
mass of uric acid that plays an important role in the forming of Kidney Stone.
Moreover, much toxins and wastes produced by animals accumulate in their liver
and kidney. Therefore, the intake of animal offal can cause much burden to the
patients’ kidney.
3. Stop drinking alcohol.
Alcohol can stimulate the protein activity thus accelerate the growth of
cysts. Therefore, patients with PKD should stop drinking alcohol so as to
prevent the cysts from growing.
4. Do not limit the intake of water blindly.
Edema is a typical symptom of Kidney Disease. Many patients with PKD fear
that they will have edema so they limit their intake of water. In fact, if
patients do not have obvious edema, they do not necessarily to limit their
water.
5. Limit the intake of potassium.
As renal function of patients with PKD is damaged, it can not discharge the
potassium in body thus causing Hyperkalemia. Therefore, patients should avoid
eating high potassium food such as potatoes, oranges, peaches, edible mushroom,
and apricot and so on.
6. Avoid eating high phosphorus food.
The patients with PKD lose their normal renal excretion function so the
phosphorus will accumulate in their body thus causing Hyperphosphatermia and
accelerating the deterioration of the disease. So patients should pay more
attention to what they eat and reduce the intake of high phosphorus food such as
seafood, yolk, animal offal and so on.
A healthy plays an important role in treating PKD. Therefore, patients should
be more careful in selecting what they eat. If so, they will be able to get a
better recovery.
