Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease used to be called Adult
polycystic Kidney Disease. Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease is a
kind of common kidney disease. There are patients with this disease all over the

Incidence rate is about 1/200~1/1000. Its main symptoms are occurrence
of cysts on the kidneys, increasing number of cysts, enlarging of kidneys. Now
let's have a look at the what kind of symptoms patients with Polycystic Kidney
Disease will have:
1. Wais ache and bellyache are the most common symptoms. The pain usually
shows in the area of flank abdomen, waist or belly pain. It can show in
persistence or intermittent. The pain is slight, and basically is swollerpain.
If there’s sharp pain, cyst burst and kidney stone cause renal colic should be
considered.
2. Urinalysis abnormal, basically the symptoms are blood urine or protein
urine. This is one of the early symptoms. Blood urine can be microscopical or
gross hematuria. This symptom is common in 50% patients. Patients with enlarged
kidneys , patients with hypertension are more common. Protein urine is nearly in
all cases, most of cases are light and persistence. When there comes urinary
tract infection, there will be white blood cells and even pus cells.
3. Concentrating function of kidney decline. Basically it shows diuresis and
enuresis, but the symptoms are light. This symptoms will show up in the early
period of the disease. In the later period it can have salt losing nephritis.
The diluted function and harden function of kidney are generally normal.
4. High Blood Pressure 50%~60% patients have high blood pressure. Most of
them are begin with renal function slowing down and it will accelerate the
declining of renal function. A study shows that high blood pressure caused by
Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease is related to the
rennin-angiotensin system. In addition, aldosterone activity is higher than
rennin-angiotensin system in the same level.
5. Damage of renal function About 50% patients have kidney failure. With age
growing, the incidence rate is getting increased. A lot of datas show that: gene
of Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease show clinical manifestation in
early phase. Man with high blood pressure, blood urine and elder kidney patients
are easily have renal impairment or even uremia.
