Tests for Polycystic Kidney Disease Patients

As we all know, Polycystic Kidney Disease is a kind of genetic disease and most of Polycystic Kidney Disease patients have family history of this disease, so they will have regular tests on their kidneys in order to find this disease as early as possible. For this reason, which kind of tests may be needed for Polycystic Kidney Disease patients?

Routine Blood test: the value of creatinine level is sensitive for us to have a general idea about present kidney condition. If there is a decline of kidney function, creatinine will increase with this.

Routine Urine Test: microscopic Haematuria can be found in middle or late stage. Some patients may have proteinuria due to the cystic pressure on glomerulus which may cause damage to filtrating function of kidney. If this disease is complicated with Stones or infections, White Blood Cells and pyocyte can be found in urine.
Through Type-B Ultrasonic examination, a large number of shadows can be found in bilateral kidney region.

CT examination shows bilateral kidney enlargement in lobulated shape, and many cysts with thin cyst wall and fluid inside can be found.

Because there is nearly no symptoms in the early stage of this disease, what we can do is to have related testes regularly so that we can find it and accept treatment as early as possible. As a result, further damage can be prevented effectively if cysts can be controlled in the early stage, which is very important for Polycystic Kidney Disease patients.
