Smoking can cause much harm to health. For example, smoking can cause lung
cancer; it can also cause arteriosclerosis and accelerate its development. In
recent years, some researches prove that smoking can cause proteinuria thus
aggravating the kidney damage. Therefore, it is quite necessary for patients
with PKD to quit smoking thus slowing down the disease development.
Smoking can cause blood pressure to increase. Even if a person keeps normal
blood pressure, his blood pressure will also rise obviously after smoking.
Hypertension is a crucial factor in aggravating PKD. Cigarettes include nicotine
that can cause vasoconstriction thus causing arteriosclerosis and Hypertension.
As a result, the blood-supply to kidney declines and cause more burden to
kidney.
Based on some researches, some PKD suffers with primary Hypertension do
not have protein in their urine. However, they often can find protein in their
urine after smoking. The experts point out that smoking can damage the
filtration membrane of kidney thus causing the protein to leak. In return,
proteinuria can further aggravate edema. This malignant circle can accelerate
the decline in the renal function.
In addition, smoking can cause upper tract infection, pneumonia, colds and
other inflammations. We all know that these inflammations are very dangerous
factors in accelerating the development of PKD. Moreover, some harmful substance
in cigarettes has to be discharged out of body by kidney, which will certainly
cause much harm to kidney.
Therefore, in order to keep the health of kidney ,the patients with PKD
should quit smoking. Especially for patients with PKD, it is very necessary and
urgent for them to give up smoking so as to decline the kidney damage.
