Kidney Bleeding with Polycystic Kidney Disease

A chronic genetic disorder, Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is marked by an abnormal growth of fluid-filled cysts which form in the kidneys and nephrons, vessels that filter toxins and wastes from the body to produce urine. People with PKD commonly have symptom of kidney bleeding. How does this condition occur?

Definition

Bleeding refers to the loss of blood. It can happen inside the body or outside the body. In PKD, kidney bleeding occurs when blood leaks from blood vessels into the urine. Another name for this problem is hematuria.

Hematuria, or blood in urine occurs in 35 to 50 percent of patients with ADPKD and at times is the first sign of the disease. The urine may be a pink or red color. Some patients may have repeated episodes of hematuria.

Causes of kidney bleeding in PKD

Usually, blood in urine appear as a result of bleeding into a cysts caused by the rupture of cyst, which can occur due to a urinary tract infection or strenuous physical activity. Bleeding can lead to flank pain (pain in the side or the low back). People with ADPKD can also suffer from kidney stones, which can lead to hematuria and flank pain.

In general, blood in urine related to bleeding cysts stops within 2 to 7 days. Usually, the treatment includes bed rest and increasing fluids intake until the bleeding stops. If these measures do not function, you should consult your doctor for better medical methods.

As one of the largest kidney disease specialized hospital throughout the world, we apply the innovative Micro-Chinese Medicine to treat this disease. Numerous clinical practices have shown that this natural remedy can take effect to reduce the secretion of cyst fluid and shrink the cysts. If we can slow down or even stop the growth of cysts in PKD, kidney bleeding can be controlled effectively.
