Q: My creatinine level is 135 and the normal range should be 80~120. Should I
worry about it?
A: Creatinine is the waste deriving from your muscle. In normal condition,
your kidneys will filter it, thereby, it will keep in a normal level. This is
why serum creatinine level is usually used to estimate the percentage of kidney
function s that you have. Generally speaking, constant high creatinine level is
an indicator of declined kidney functions.
From your description, your creatinine level 135 in not very high, so may be
you are in the early stage of kidney disorder. However, creatinine level does
not rise unless kidney functions have a remarked falling. In most cases, as long
as your creatinine level become higher, you may have already lose at least 50%
kidney functions.
In addition, once your kidneys problem can not be controlled, you may be at
higher risk for heart attacks, high blood pressure, weak bones and other medical
problems.
However, kidney disease fails to show any obvious symptoms at the early
stage, which is known as “silent killer”. When patients with kidney disease find
their kidney problems, they usually have already stepped into the renal failure
stage.
Thereby, you’d better to have a little more evaluation on your kidney
functions, such as GFR (Glomerular Filtration Rate) and ECT, which can reflect
exactly your kidney functions.
When patients in the early stage of kidney disease, it is the best time to
take treatments. If kidney disease can be controlled in this stage, most of
kidney functions will avoid damages. Once, you miss the best time, some kidney
functions will lose and even can not reverse. Hope you can get a kidney
functions evaluation and right treatment as soon as possible. If you need more
