PKD is known as a genetic disease which brings about a bunch of cysts growing
in the kidney. For most patients with PKD, no obvious symptom in the early stage
may mislead them and they usually have no treatment. But cysts are enlarging
quickly at their middle age, so it is probable for them to suffer from the
rupture of cysts if they perform no treatment. What should they do if their
cysts rupture?
Due to ceaseless secretion of cysts fluid, cysts are growing quickly and give
more and more pressure on the surrounding renal tissue and blood capillary. When
the diameters of cysts are more than 3 centimeters, it seems quite possible to
rupture if they have some faint stimulation from the outside. Thereby it is very
dangerous for patients with PKD in this case.
If the cysts rupture but patients overlook its risk and do not receive timely
treatment, it is inevitable for them to have an infection in their kidneys. The
infection may cause continuous bleeding and blood presents in their urine. If
secondary infection occurs, it will arouse acute renal failure, leading to a bad
damage to renal function. Patients have to suffering a lot, such as shivers,
fever, backache, frequent micturition and odynuria.
Early treatment for the patients with ruptured cysts can protect their renal
function and repair damaged renal tissue. The cysts fluid in the ruptured cysts
can be pumped by puncture through the direction of ultrasound and CT scan. After
pumping cysts fluid, the high temperature of patients generally has some
decrease. Two or three days later, puncture again for washing the cysts and then
the temperature will go to the normal.
Meanwhile, some effective antibiotic should be taken to control infection.
The suitable medicine depends on their characteristic of penetrability. Some
antibiotics are easy to reach and function in the cysts near the renal nephrons;
some antibiotics are good at playing a role in the cysts far away from renal
nephrons. Thus patients should take the most appropriate medicine to go against
infection effectively.
The rupture of cysts can cause a great harm for the renal function, so
patient with PKD should have an effective treatment as early as they can instead
of waiting for cysts enlargement. It the best way for patients with PKD to block
cysts to grow when they are little and living a normal life like health people
is not a fancy for them. If you want to know more about PKD, please consult our
