Diseases Caused by Dialysis

Generally, at the end stage of kidney disease, most patients will have to adopt dialysis to sustain their lives. However, dialysis can lead to a lot of other diseases. The following are the diseases caused by dialysis.

1. Dialysis Imbalance Syndrome

The occurrence rate is 3.4%-20%. It is caused by the sharp decline of blood urea nitrogen in the blood, leading to the pressure difference between the cells. In this way, the intracranial pressure will elevate and patients will present encephala edema.

2. Muscle Spasm

The causes of muscle spasm when patients are undergoing dialysis are not very clear.

3. Hypotension

Hypotension is one of the common acute complications of dialysis. The occurrence rate can be 20%-30%.

4. Headache

Headache is a common disease caused by dialysis. The clear reason is not known yet. It might be a light manifestation of disequilibrium syndrome.

5. Vomiting and Nausea

About 10% patients who are undergoing dialysis will lead to vomiting and nausea. The most common reason of this phenomenon is low blood pressure or disequilibrium syndrome. Sometimes, it can relate with acetic acid salt intolerance and the poison of dialysate.

6. Chill and fever

The fever is always not accompanied with inflammation.

7. Heart failure

Heart failure is the most serious disease caused by dialysis.

8. Arrhythmia

The occurrence rate is 50%, which is characterized by frequent ventricular premature beats.

The above are the common diseases caused by dialysis. What is worse, dialysis is not a treatment of kidney patients. Long term dialysis can lead to the atrophy of kidneys. Finally, patients will have to be put on a waiting list for kidney transplant. What patients really need to do is receive proper therapy to repair the kidney units.
