According to the newest survey, at least 10% of dialysis patients (End-stage
Renal Failure patients) are caused by Autosomal Dominant Ploycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD). In Shijiazhuang Kidney Disease Hospital, from the year 2008 to
April 2011, Professor Lv has made a survey: we have received 1052 cases of
Autosomal Dominant Ploycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) patients, which exceeds
much more than some other big hospitals in Shanghai, Beijing of China. Based on
so many clinical observations and treatments, we hereby try to give more
information about the five common clinical complications of Autosomal Dominant
Polycystic Kidney Disease(ADPKD) and hope it will arouse your attention as
well.
Patients with Polycystic Kidney Disease have multiple cysts on both kidneys.
Autosomal Dominant Ploycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) always runs in family. If
one parent carries the genes, the child has a 50% possibility of developing
Polycystic Kidney Disease.
There are some common complications of Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney
Disease:
1. Hypertension (High blood pressure)
Among the patients we have treated, 66% have high blood pressure. Before
Serum increases, the appearence of hypertension (high blood pressure) signifies
that the kidney tissues, blood vessels have been pressed by the enlarging cysts,
which causes the insufficiency of blood and oxygen of the kidneys. And then
affects a series reaction of Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone, which can cause the
concentration of Angiotensin, and the blood vessels will contract and then blood
pressure is elevated. Blood pressure will aggravate the damage of the kidney
function, and the declined kidney function may in turn make the blood pressure
hard to control.
2. Kidney stones
56% patients are accompanied with Kidney stones. If kidney stones obstruct
the ureter, it will cause great pain. To remove the kidney stones, the usually
used methods are extracorporeal lithotripsy, Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL)
etc. However, for PKD patients, these methods may lead to trauma of the kidneys
because the external intervention may break the cysts and cause damage. So for
kidney stones, you'd better choose natural treatment like Micro-Chinese Medicine
Osmotherapy.
3. Multiple cysts in other organs, like polycystic liver, polycystic spleen,
polycystic pancreas, polycystic Ovary, polycystic lung etc.
4. Hematuria
About half of the patients may present hematuria. With the cysts enlarging
with time, the pressure on kidney tissues and blood vessels will increase,
endothelial cells are damaged and blood will leak out. It can be gross hematuria
or microscopic hematuria.
5. Urinary Tract Infection caused by PKD
Any urinary tract infection should be treated promptly with appropriate
antibiotics.
As the multiple cysts will damage the normal kidney structure, and function
with their enlargement, so many complications will appear. For the PKD patients,
they'd better control the PKD progress in the early stage, so as to avoid the
damage of the kidney functions, and influence the other organs and systems.
