Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) patients, in addition to receiving
appropriate regular treatments in time, should pay attention to the following
tips in their daily care in order to get better or get recovered:
Tip 1. Preventing Cold
PKD cause so much misery to those patients, because, unlike the other Kidney
Diseases, PKD is a kind of hereditary disease, which will accompany patients’
whole life. Even if close attention has been paid to them or their families take
very good care of them, they still can not stop the cysts from growing large. At
this time, cold, especially repeated cold will cause damage to their kidneys
more seriously and even accelerate the decline of renal function.
Tip 2. Controlling diets well
Rational diets are very important for PKD patients in controlling the decline
of renal function. It’s good for them to have low-salt (2-3g edible salt per day
is better), low-protein and low fat-diets and eat food containing less potassium
and phosphorus but rich in vitamins and crude fiber. Keep bowels open.
Tip 3. Preventing external injuries.
Continuous enlargement of the cysts in PKD patients will gradually increase
the pressure inside the cysts and force the patients’ kidneys to grow
accordingly, followed by Intra-abdominal Hypertension. At this time, any slight
external injury like wrench, bumps, falling injuries, etc. will increase the
pressure inside the abdominal cavity, or cause direct impact on swollen cysts
due to those external injuries or external forces; and lead to rupture and
hemorrhage of the cysts with rather high internal pressure, which can induce
infection easily.
Tip 4. Controlling blood pressure well
Hypertension has appeared in most PKD patients before their renal function is
damaged, so we can say that PKD has already attacked: hypertension will
accelerate the damage to renal function, and cause injury to blood vessels at
heart and brain at the same time; result in severe complications like stroke,
etc. in PKD patients accompanied by encephalic angioma due to rupture and
hemorrhage. Therefore, controlling blood pressure well is crucial in delaying
the deterioration of renal function and in preventing complications.
If PKD patients, especially those after treatments, can follow the above
mentioned suggestions, the curative effects can be enhanced and the aims of
treatment duly achieved. If you need more information about daily care of PKD
patients, you can leave us a message or email to kidney-treatment@hotmail.com. We will
reply you as soon as possible.
