What Is Retrograde Urography

When routine intravenous Urography can not show a clear develop in an imaging on kidney or ureter, the method of retrograde Urography can be adopted to show a clear image by retrograde urinary intubation through urinary tract and ureter.
Retrograde Urography is a complement to excretory Urography, adopted to show the obstructing position caused by stones, abnormalities of ureter and renal pelvis as well as renal calices. It is also used to show the congenital abnormalities and the relationship between stones and urinary system. It is suitable for patients with serious injured kidney function and patients who are allergic to imaging agent. Patients suffering lower urinary tract infection or urinary tract narrowing should avoid this test. Retrograde Urography can not present the condition of kidney function.

The detailed operation process can be described as follows: cystoscope ureteral catheter is plugged into ureter in order to make imaging agent flow into urinary tract, showing image of urinary tract. It is not affected by kidney function.
Imaging agent is transfused into urinary tract slowly until the whole image of urinary tract can be seen, if ureteral catheter can not pass stones into nearby ureter, the catheter should be drawn back to the position that 1cm away from stones and then transfusing imaging agent for a second time.
