Polycystic Kidney Disease is a congenital kidney disease which features with
numerous cysts on kidneys. Not every child of PKD parents will get the disease.
This is because the occurrence of PKD on the condition of genetic factors and
environmental factors. Here are the environmental factors for polycystic kidney
disease for your information.
A current theory about the cause of PKD is known as “second strikes theory”
which says that one every people with PKD genes will get the disease unless all
they get the “second strikes” in their life. In fact, “second strikes” means the
environmental factors which stimulate the PKD genes to develop.
Cold. Cold or flu is the common environmental factors to activate the
underlying PKD genes to wake up. Meantime, for patients whose renal cysts have
already grown up, cold will accelerate the progression of the disease.
Infections. Infections will lead to an imbalanced internal environment, which
will benefit the growth of kidney cysts. Repeated infections, such as urinary
tract infection, upper respiratory tract infection etc, can activate internal
factors of cyst and promoting the formation and cysts growth.
Pregnancy. Pregnancy is surely a burden for kidneys. Usually for patients
with PKD, pregnancy not only can drop the kidney functions greatly, but also can
affect the fetus. In serious condition, miscarriage may attack the
mother-to-be.
Bad emotion. According to a study, bad emotion will disturb the balance of
nerve system and endocrine, which will transform the internal environment to
secrete cyst fluids to enlarge the renal cysts.
Toxins. Toxins contribute to genic mutation and inborn dysontogenesis, which
is known as the common “second strike” to PKD. Some medicines contain toxins
which is favorable for the attack of the disease, such as aspirin, NSAIDs,
phenacetin, lithium, chaparral tea, starfruit, caffeine, coffee, tea and more
foods.
Diet. Unhealthy diet does harm to people with PKD genes. For instance,
excessive hunger can lead to inanition while overeating can damage the digestion
and absorption functions of stomach with obstacles of blood circulation.
Besides, many foods are stimulating factors for patients with PKD, such as
coffee, curry food, hamburger, pizza crust and cola etc. Long-term intake of
such foods will surely get you involved into PKD sooner or later.
